Project Moon Life is a browser-based urban life simulator. You inherit a starting place and family, then make decisions as the years pass through an unforgiving city.
Some circumstances are inherited; the story grows from how you respond. A seed establishes a beginning, while your choices shape health, sanity, resources, connections, reputation and work.
This guide explains the game’s philosophy, how to play, what the free simulator includes, and how the two optional AI modes differ.

What is Project Moon Life?
Project Moon Life turns a life story into a series of small decisions. A new resident may begin in a Nest, the Backstreets or the Outskirts. Their neighborhood, family and early circumstances come from a life seed, but those details do not determine the ending.
As time moves through four seasons, events ask you to choose what matters. A career opportunity might improve your prospects while adding pressure. Helping someone can strengthen a connection while costing time or resources. The five attributes are fictional indices from 0 to 100, not money or a score to maximize.
Different trade-offs lead to different lives. The point is to see what emerges from your decisions, then remember it through a saved chronicle, achievements and portraits.
How to play Project Moon Life
You can begin with a random resident or customize a few details, including a name, story language and seed. The game then builds the resident’s background and opens the life chronicle.

The basic loop is:
- Read the current moment. Some moments are ordinary passages of time; others present a decision with visible risks or effects.
- Choose an available action. Important decisions stop the clock while you consider them. Smaller moments have a short default timer, and pausing or hiding the page stops that countdown.
- Let the years move. One simulated year takes about a minute at normal speed. You can pause or increase the pace up to 32×.
- Follow the consequences. Your attributes, relationships, career route and later events reflect the choices already recorded in the life.
- Keep or share the record. The game saves free lives in your browser. You can export a JSON backup to move a record to another browser or device.
The free simulator has several rules editions. New lives use Living Districts, where six neighborhood systems affect starting conditions, annual changes and local events. Professional assignments and special paths add more ways for a life to develop.
The free simulator: the complete local game
The base game is free and unlimited. No account, payment or AI service is needed. Built-in events, careers, speed controls, replays and the local archive are part of free play. Start a free life whenever you are ready.
Free lives run on a seeded rules engine. In the same rules edition, the same seed and the same sequence of choices reproduce the same simulation results—even if you change the resident’s name or the interface language. Change a decision and the next part of the life can change too.
Your free archive stays in the current browser rather than syncing to an account. Once a life is loaded, it can continue offline. Export a backup before clearing site data or switching browsers; saves do not automatically move between devices.
The AI modes: two ways to shape a life
Project Moon Life also offers two optional AI-guided modes. They use cloud saves and require sign-in. A one-time $10 AI pass unlocks both modes and unlimited AI life starts; see the AI pass details. The free simulator remains separate and free.
AI chapter
The AI chapter follows a resident through six chapters and up to 24 major decisions. AI-written scenes respond to the resident’s history, recurring relationships and earlier promises. You make each important choice from the available options, and later chapters can reflect what happened before.
The AI writes the scene while the game’s rules decide what an action costs and what changes. This keeps each passage connected to the resident’s recorded life and confirmed choices.
Participating life
Participating Life centers on a long-term goal and specific agreements. You can play with the listed buttons alone, or describe an idea for a next step in your own words.
When you propose an action, the AI turns it into a supported game action and shows what it would do. The proposal changes the life only after you review and confirm it. The mode centers on guided choices and proposals the game can validate.
AI lives are saved to your account and need a network connection to continue. In Participating Life, text you enter is sent for interpretation, so use fictional details rather than private real-world information.
| Mode | Cost and sign-in | Save location | What shapes the story |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free simulator | Free; no account | This browser | Built-in events, seeded rules and your choices |
| AI chapter | One-time AI pass; sign-in | Your account | AI-written scenes and rule-controlled choices |
| Participating Life | Included in the same AI pass; sign-in | Your account | A long-term goal, listed choices and confirmed proposals |
How AI and game rules work together
In Project Moon Life, AI adds narrative detail and, in Participating Life, helps interpret a player’s proposed action. The game engine applies confirmed choices to attributes, available options, risks and recorded outcomes.
That boundary matters. A vivid scene can describe a difficult decision, while the saved record reflects the game rules and the action you confirmed. Refreshing an AI life restores its saved scene instead of asking the model to invent a different result.
Seeds, replays and invitations
A seed lets you share the beginning of a life. In the free simulator, replay the same rules version and seed, then make different choices to compare paths. The same seed and choices reproduce the same simulation results.
An AI invitation also shares a starting point, such as the initial conditions and career direction. It carries no sender choices, account, story text or ending. Your own decisions shape what follows.
Frequently asked questions
Is Project Moon Life free?
Yes. The local simulator is free and unlimited, with no sign-in or payment. The AI modes are optional and use a separate one-time $10 pass.
Is Project Moon Life an official Project Moon game?
No. Project Moon Life is an unofficial fan work inspired by the fictional settings of Lobotomy Corporation and Limbus Company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or produced by Project Moon. Its website artwork and event writing are original.
Is the AI mode an open-ended chatbot game?
The AI chapter writes scenes around a guided life and its available choices. Participating Life accepts optional natural-language proposals, then checks them against supported actions and waits for your confirmation. The rules engine determines the actual outcomes.
Start with one life
Project Moon Life is about the space between an inherited beginning and a chosen response. Start with the free simulator, learn how the city’s systems work, and try an AI mode if you want scenes or proposals shaped by a language model.
Choose your starting point: play the free simulator, begin an AI chapter, or try Participating Life. You can also read the Project Moon Life field guide before you begin.
